Enhancing your natural beauty can be as simple as focusing on your lashes. A well-executed lash lift can bring your eyes to life and provide that effortlessly glamorous look we all desire. Recently, Korean lash lifts have surged in popularity, but do they truly deliver on their promises? And how do they stack up against traditional methods? The answer may surprise you: it’s both yes and no.

Korean lash lifts might be more suitable for many, but I still advocate for the traditional method when it's best to do so. What should you consider, and how do you determine which technique is best for you? Let’s explore the differences and understand how I make the best choice for your lashes and desired preferences.

The Difference Between Korean Lash Lifts and Traditional Methods

Understanding the differences requires looking closely at the solutions used in each method. Traditional lash lifts typically rely on Thioglycolic Acid (TGA) solutions, while Korean lash lifts often use Cysteamine.

TGA solutions have been popular for years due to their effectiveness. They work by breaking down the disulfide bonds in the hair, allowing lashes to be reshaped. The results typically last between 8-12, depending on your lash growth cycle and diligent aftercare.

In contrast, Cysteamine is a newer ingredient that has gained traction in the beauty industry. It is generally a lot gentler on lashes, however this depends on many factors. Many clients report that a Korean lash lift can last up to 8- 10 weeks, which still competes well with the traditional method.

Korean Lash Lifts require the entire lash from root to tip to be saturated in the softening solution so that whole lash can be manipulated into a new shape. Whereas, the traditional method requires saturating only the base and roots of the lashes, giving it that "lash-curler"lift.

It's important to remember that Korean lash lifts aren't universally suitable for everyone. Factors such as your natural lash type, the overall health of your lashes, and the technician's skill can all influence the outcome.

How I Choose the Right Method for You

Determining the best method for your lashes really depends on your unique needs. If you have sensitive or naturally fragile lashes or have previously faced damage from treatments, opting for a Traditional lash lift might be wiser. It sounds counter intuitive, I know. But here is why:

The higher up the lash, the more delicate the hair is. Cysteamine products are gentle enough to saturate the whole hair, but applying this solution on fragile lashes can still be damaging to the hair. Its best in these cases to opt for the traditional method, and use a more gentle TGA solution at the base of the lash only.

On the contrary, if your lashes are very long, thick, and resistant (you might have seen disappointing results or heard from your lash therapist that your lashes "just don't lift"), then a Korean Lash Lift might be more appropriate for you. Regardless of the method, lash lifts on these types of lashes typically don't last as long (usually 6-8 weeks) and can accommodate more frequent, closely spaced appointments, provided that proper aftercare treatments are included between sessions.

There's no need for you to stress about the technical details or figuring out which method suits you best! Leave that to me, your lash expert. I'll conduct a comprehensive analysis of your lashes and go over our options with you, ensuring you have a clear understanding and feel confident in the process.

Post Lash Lift aftercare

You should avoid water, steam, and oil-based products for 24 hours after treatment. Additionally, utilising a nourishing lash serum can bolster the health and strength of your lashes. For lasting results, keeping your lashes hydrated is key.

I can recommend some really great serums which can be purchased online (and hopefully in-store soon! Stay tuned).

Guaranteed results with healthy lashes

Remember, whether you choose a Korean lash lift or stick with traditional methods, the best lash lift is the one that meets your individual needs. Happy lifting!
